Alleged Stalking Victim Confronts Suspect

By Gina Ford

Today a woman testified that former police officer Jeff Pelo began stalking her in 2002.

Jennifer King says between June 2002 and February of 2002 she saw officer Pelo in her apartment complex at least 15 times.

King testifies that in August of 2002 she noticed a car following her.

She told the court, "I was wondering if something was happening because there was a cop car behind me. Then I looked to see if it was Pelo, and it was."

King also testified someone attempted to break into her apartment in September of 2002.

When she awoke the next morning, a window screen in her apartment was broken and pushed in.

In April of 2003 she says Pelo and another officer offered her a ride in their squad car to her vehicle in downtown Bloomington.

As they approached her car, she testified she did not indicate which one was hers, but she says Pelo pointed it out and quickly recited her license plate number.

King says while in the squad car she confronted Pelo about stalking her.

She says he simply said, "I don't know what you're talking about."

King said she was frightened and informed her father of the stalking incidents. He called Pelo at the police department.

Daniel King testified he confronted the officer about following his daughter even though she had not broken the law.

King told the court he warned Pelo if the harassment did not stop...

"I would come see him and I would make sure the trip wasn't wasted."

King testified Pelo had no response to his threat.

In addition to the stalking charge, Pelo is charged with multiple counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault, and could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.

One bad cop doesn't make them all bad. They have procedures they have to follow to get a conviction and they did didn't they.

He stalked, he raped, he lied. Shame on him. And shame on the justice system and others who may not punish him. He belongs locked up, not free to hurt again. His wife is so phony. She knows!

Unfortunately a few police officers believe they are above the law. Shame on the other officers that were aware that Pelo was committing the said crimes. They are just as guilty as he is and should be held accountable also.
