Victor Simmons faces weapons charges for allegedly bringing a gun and ammunition to school.

One member of the class of 2008 is missing from this ceremony.

pomp and circumstance.

Victor Simmons spent a little more than the past month in jail...accused of bring a handgun and bullets to school.
Ward Landrum feels Simmons deserves to walk with them.

"We're short a person, to me, I think he should be here," said Landrum.

Stephen Carpenter is indifferent.

"I don't care either way, it's whatever they believe should happen."

The majority of students News 25 spoke with feel Simmons should be punished for his actions, but he still has a right to at least attend the ceremony.

"I understand him not walking because the fact that he did bring the gun to school and that's wrong, and you shouldn't be able to do walk if you do that," said Woodruff graduate Tristin Smith.

"He deserves to graduate but he knew what he was doing, there are consequences for doing the wrong thing," saud graduate Sunyeal Martin.

Victor Simmons' friends say they support him, one–hundred percent.

"He shouldn't have brought the gun to school, that is wrong, we're not supporting that, but what we are supporting is the person himself. He is a wonderful person, that's what people aren't seeing," said Woodruff graduate Cassie Malone.

Simmons' graduation status has yet to be determined.

People think just because he brought a hand gun 2 school, that makes him a bad student and a bad person. BUT, people should get to know him before saying bad things about him. He isn't a bad person at all. He might sometimes act like a bad person. But, he really is a nice person once you get to understand and know him better.

I am so disgusted with Dist 150 to even think this child should participate in graduation, he should still be in jail waiting for his trial and shame on the community for donating money to get him out, they should be donating there money to something a little more worth while, maybe they should donate it to the school so they can have a better education, and vote out the Dist 150 school board!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if he earned the grades to be an honor student he should have been allowed to attend the ceramony and let the law punish him but dont take away what he earned he had to of wored hard to be an honor student.it is a very poor choice he made to bring a gun to school but i also believe our youth today need moore guidence love care and concern parents need to spend more time talking and doing things with there teens.

This makes me sick to think that the school would even consider letting him participate in graduation! Way to go Dist 150! Whats your next grand idea? Target Practice as class? Maybe he could be the teacher?

i happen to know victor and his parents who are wonderful parents.the choice victor made was a wrong one and there should be consequences.however, knowing that this isnt the victor that we know, i dont think that being so hard on him andthrowing in the towel is the answer.we have too manyyoung men in the streets that have no education or guidance so lets help him move forward not backwards

Oh boo hoo! Like he didn't know he was wrong to bring a gun to school? Or maybe he just thought he wouldn't get caught. Unfortunately I have the feeling that this is the way far too many of today's teenagers feel. They think they are above the law!

Am I supposed to feel sorry for this kid? Because I don't. He BROUGHT A GUN TO SCHOOL! Where and when in the world did that become okay? Children have a right to go to school to learn and not worry about which of their classmastes may or may not have a gun in their locker. My other question is where did he get the gun and where are his parents. Not parenting obviously.

If he is as intelligent and wonderful as some people believe, then he should have no trouble understanding and accepting consequences. Sure, everyone messes up...but how many bring guns and ammo to school? I think he should graduate, but I agree with him missing the ceremony.
