CityLink Riders get a pleasant surprise today... discounted bus fares. It is customer appreciation day at the Greater Peoria Mass Transit District.

Instead of paying one dollar for single ride tickets, today it only costs 25 cents.

City Link officials are hoping to encourage more people to hop on the bus, especially with the high gas prices.

Passenger Kelly Taylor said, "It's good because I pay everyday. I ride the bus because gas prices are so high. I work all the way on pioneer parkway. I spend about 70 dollars a week just to get back and forth. Riding the bus is much easier."

Another passenger, Gary Hafele, said, "Through the years the bus fares have gotten pretty expensive really, to a dollar, when I was growing up as a kid here in Peoria, it was 50 cents maybe 60. through the years it's gone up a little bit, it's kind of a break. Especially because I ride the bus everyday. It adds up."

Also today, CityLink kicked off a new environmental campaign, "Citylink Passengers are Energy Independent."
