During a brief hearing Monday, 21-year-old Tracy Hermann surrendered her parental rights to the girl, who is in the care of the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services.

Hermann and 23-year-old James Sargent are accused of leaving 5-month-old Benjamin Sargent without food or water in a car seat for eight days. The baby was left in the snowsuit he was wearing
when dropped off at their home.

An August 4 trial has been set for the pair. If convicted, they face up to 100 years in prison.

How sad for the three year old. I realize she'll be better off but what a horrible situation for her.
