M.A.T.E Training

By Syreeta Baker

Six state and local agencies...sailed the Illinois River for a Multi-Agency Training Exercise, also known as M.A.T.E.

The United Sates Coast Guard and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary hosted a training seminar.
Emergency crews performed rescue scenarios on the river, such as man overboard techniques.
The one-day event is designed to improve communication between first responders on waterways.

"The coast guard might not be the first agency to respond on scene it could be the fire department it could be one of the law enforcement agencies so its good we all get together on the same page and we all use the same radio frequencies and communicate well," says Todd Pendleton.
The event kicked off the first day of National Safe Boating Week.
This is the third annual M.A.T.E River Rescue Exercise.
