All residents were safely evacuated.

By 6:00 p.m. firefighters said they had the main blaze under control at Building 21 of Leisure Acres. Tthe roof had collapsed and the building was considered a total loss. Firefighters said they initially were concerned about oxygen tanks stored in the building, but there was no danger.

Morton Villa and Morton Terrace had agreed to temporarily house some of Leisure Acres' residents. Officials said others would stay with family members in the area.

Fire broke out at Leisure Acres adult living center a little past 4:00 p.m.

Residents were quickly accounted for, but flames quickly spread throughout the facility, which sits just off of Route 8 in Sunnyland.

Flames were shooting through the roof and smoke filled the surrounding neighborhood.

Firefighters had been cleared from some parts of the facility for fear it would collapse soon after the fire broke out.

Fire departments from East Peoria, Northern Tazewell, Germantown Hills and Washington fought the blaze.

I live in Melrose Subdivision just a short distance from Leisure Acres. I have always been proud of our Northern Tazewell Fire Department and this was one of their finest hours. My hat goes off to them and to the other fire departments that helped out. My hearts go out to the residences who lost every thing they own. May their lives be put back together very soon. God Bless All Of You.
