Principal Cathy Costello challenged the elementary students to write for 30,000 minutes. The students took the challenge and ended up writing for more than 40,000 minutes.

Fifth Grade teacher Jana Southerland said, "Our goal was 30,000 minutes. We wrote for 41,000-plus minutes which sent her to the roof with green hair and pajamas on."

Costello said, "I'm doing this because we want the students to write and write and to enjoy writing and I thank the committee on a good way for the students to enjoy writing."

Costello also made smaller challenges to encourage the students to write. In fact, she died her hair blue and wore her pajamas because the students wrote for more than 27,000 minutes.
