Winds Topple Trees, Power Lines

Mother Nature showed her fury this Mother's Day. Strong winds and chilly rains rolled through Central Illinois for much of the day.

Ameren reports more than 26,000 customers in Illinois were without power due to the winds bringing down power lines. As of 7:30 Sunday evening, Ameren reports just over 300 people without power in the Peoria area.

The strong winds also toppled trees and littered roadways with tree pollen and seeds. Click on You News to see a picture of a tree that fell on top and crushed a car in Marquette Heights.

Winds gusted up to 38 mph in Peoria, 47 mph in Bloomington and 46 mph in Galesburg. The winds will subside as we head into the overnight hours.

Mother Nature also soaked the area with about an inch of rainfall. The Peoria airport reports 1.20" worth of rain while Lincoln received 1.43" and Bloomington 1.13" since the rain started late Saturday night.

The good news is Central Illinois escaped the severe storms. A series of tornadoes twisted through parts of Oklahoma, Missouri and Georgia killing 21 people.

Also several hopitals in the area offer charity assistance. if he lived alone and only hd temp jobs I am sure he would have qualified for public aid and/or charity assistance, the help is out there you just have to kow where to turn. I am sorry for his death it is unfortunate, but God has a way of doing things sometimes.
