The fight against breast cancer has thousands of people making a trek to the Northwoods Mall today in preparation for the Komen Peoria Race for the Cure.

Packet pick up is taking over the mall today. Volunteers are making sure participants get their t-shirts, number and information on where they need to be on race day.

Many of the volunteers are cancer survivors themselves.

Survivor Joan Williamson said, "I'm a double survivor. I've had two mastectomies and I've had a hysterectomy. I've had cancer three times. That's why I volunteer."

Another survivor, Cassaundra Powell, said, "I think it's a wonderful thing. All of the volunteers coming together. It's very spiritual. It's very together. When a lot of women come together, things happen. It's wonderful."

Packet pick-up runs until eight this evening.

There will 'not' be pick-up at the Race, on Saturday.

Saturday's events kick off at 7:00 a.m at the Metro Centre.

Everyone who participates in the Race for the Cure or the ride has a reason why they are there. News 25 wants you to share your story and pictures or video. If you post a picture, you become eligible for our I-pod drawing.
