Linda and Penn Tanni's six-year-old daughter goes to an afterschool program until she is picked up at 6:00 in the evening.

This year however, she was sent home by bus, not once but twice, alone after school.

Linda Tanni returned home early from nursing school last Friday to cook for her family. She answered a knock at the door around 3:30 and saw her six-year-old daughter standing on the porch. Tanni asked her crying daughter why she was home.

"She said, 'I told my teacher I'm not supposed to get on the bus. And my teacher told me to get on the bus anyway." I told her "stop crying, you didn't do anything wrong." And she continued to say, "I knew I was going to be left on the street alone."

Last year the same thing happened. Tanni's daughter had to sit on the porch for almost two hours until her parents got home.

Pleasant Valley Elementary School Superintendent Allen Johnson says, "the big thing is we're dismissing latchkey students five minutes early...so the school can compare their notes with Rogy's to see who's present and who's sick."

Pleasant Valley's Latchkey program is run by Rogy's Childcare Center.

Hey Brianne, it's really easy to judge when you don't know someone else's situation isnt it.

I can relate to what these parents are going through. My child's life was threaten in a Pekin school and no one is wanting to help. I have contacted the school board and even the Regional Superinetedant's office. It is no one's job to make the schooll answer questions. I would like everyone to remember that when they elect the next school officals!!!!! Good Luck and I hope no other parents will have to deal with any school issues like we have.

first of all if this happened to her last year, then why didnt she look into other places to place her daughter and second if you are getting out of school early why keep your kids in daycare when they can be home with you. I can cook dinner with my children there..hmmm..

This doesn't at all surprise me. You mentioned Rogy's and there is a red flag right there. I haven't heard that many great things about Rogy's. Especially, since they constantly go through staff the way they do. I would find another source for your daughter, grandparent, etc. I would also ask for compensation for the day it happened. You shouldn't have to pay for poor services. How old is this child??? Good thing the child was on the front porch and not elsewhere. It could of been worse.
