Tornadoes and thunderstorms like the ones in Arkansas last weekend can wreak havoc on communities.

In central Illinois, Ameren CILCO activates its preparedness plan during storms, which can cause power outages. When the devastation is widespread in remote communities Ameren can send one of six storm trailers that can meet the needs of up to 200 linemen.

Ameren Illinois Vice President Bill Prebil said, "Anything that we can do that cuts the amount of time that our people are driving back and forth to get material shortens the restoration time."

The storm trailers do not include transformers and utility poles.

Ameren also has four other storm trailers in Missouri.

Company officials say they can dispatch them to wherever the greatest need exists.
