Man Charged With Misdemeanor For Infant's Injuries

A 26-year old Peoria Heights man is charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and endangering the life of a child.

Zackery Knowles was ordered held on $10,000 bond Tuesday.

Knowles was arrested Monday morning, after his girlfriend says her son had bruising to his neck, ears, back and stomach.

The boy is in fair condition at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.

Knowles says he fell on the boy when he was in his crib.

Knowles told the court he was willing to plead to the charges and is scheduled to be back in court next month.

He wouldn't do this on purpose? How do you accidently bruise a baby's (or anyones) neck, ears, back and stomach? By falling on them in a crib (as stated)? Sorry, that doesn't add up at all. It doesn't matter how wonderful he WAS, this is who he IS now. He did more than "mess up", he seriously injured (could have killed) an innocent, helpless, defenseless BABY!

For the record he is not the kind of guy people are making him out to be. I've known him for many years and i know he would not do this kind of thing on purpose. He knows that he messed up and he is facing the consequences for his actions unlike many of the worthless child abusers out there. My best wishes goes out to the child and the girlfriend.

ok...i totally disagree with some of these posts. first off some men are so good at what they do..an dont even show any signs of anything til its too late like in this situation. luckily the lil baby will be ok. however i do agree that ppl need to take the time to get to really know someone b4 they jump into anything. and really be watching for signs. cuz men nowadays are getting better at manipulation and lying to get what they want. everyone should be proud of her for doing what she did.

I work in healthcare and have seen so many children die or forever handicapped at the hands of their mother's boyfriend. Get this through your heads single moms! Never leave your child in the care of a boyfriend. Stop looking for a man in your life,and get your own life together, by yourself, and take care of your kids. A relationship with another man will only bring you misery and possibly more kids.

I'm encouraged that the mother turned him in before he was able to do more damage. I pray she stays strong and never lets him near the boy again. No one would EVER hurt one of my kids.

I can't believe this, another little baby hurt by a mother's boyfriend. Woman need to learn how to pick their boyfriends. Your child comes first not your love life. If he can hurt a baby like that then he must have lots of other problems that are visible too. Why date them? I am sorry for this mother because I know it hurts to see your little one hurting like that. Good luck to that little boy.
