A Heart Transplant surgery for longtime Peoria community activist Percy Baker...has area residents raising funds in his honor.
Those attending this 'Celebration of life Benefit' say their giving back to a man...who they say...gave so much to his community.
Percy Baker's medical expenses from his heart transplant have added up to more than 100 thousand dollars.
And now folks from throughout the area are dining at the Riverplex to help with the cost.
"It's simply flattering and breathtaking to know that so many people care.
While I was working I never really knew that there was that outpouring of caring," says Percy Baker
The Riverplex along with area community leaders sponsored the benefit.
Anyone wanting to help can donate to the Percy Baker Jr. Trust Fund at any South Side Bank branch.
