Bradley Announces Alcohol Plan And Says No To Three Former Students

By Garry Moore

The three Bradley soccer players serving six months in jail for involuntary manslaughter will not be allowed back at the University. This as Bradley unveils a new, stricter alcohol action plan for students today.

This 31-page action plan is very specific laying out the consequences for certain actions. Here are a few highlights.

First, students will receive an additional $50 fine from the University for a drinking ticket on or off campus.

Students who get three drinking citations now face suspension from the university.

And, students who host underage drinking parties will be fined $250.

The announcement comes in the wake of a bad year for Bradley when it comes to booze.

Two basketball players arrested for illegal consumption.

And, the big shocker, the death of soccer player Danny Dahlquist. His roommates pulled a fatal firecracker prank after a night of drinking.

Bradley President Joanne Glasser gives this reason why David Crady, Ryan Johnson and Nicholas Mentgen can't re-enroll at Bradley.

She said, "There were and are policies and procedures in place. They have been followed. There's been a series of written communication that have accompanied all of our actions."

The action plan also provides for more alcohol education programs and alcohol-free, late-night on-campus events.

Bradley Student President Jordan Ticaric said, "We do not want to experience another year like this one. We cannot."

That's why the Bradley student president is putting hope into a new alcohol action plan. She worked with other students and school leaders to put together the detailed policy.

Alan Galsky, the Bradley Associate Provost for Student Affairs said, "Under this policy, all students regardless of who they are and what they do for the University will be treated equally."

Freshman Francis Quintero said, "I've witnessed before people being intoxicated. It's very good, something that's needed."

The Bradley Campus hopes it now doesn't take another death for students and the university to take notice.

If this was my kid, I would send him to a school in another state or have them take online courses.

Why can't these boys just go finish their education elsewhere? At least they still can. We all feel bad about a prank that could have happened to anyone of our kids. Why would they want to return to BU. They should move on gracefully and be thankful they have a second chance.

While I agree that the deaths of these students in relation to alcohol is unfortunate, what is even more unfortunate is that we now must enact a policy that goes above and beyond the punishment of the law. While you do want to protect students, children, we must remember that those students who are 18 years old or more ARE adults in legal terms. When will we ask these adults to be responsible for making their own good judgements instead of babysitting them with rules.

They can continue their education, that is the point. Yes, these boys come from good families. Yet, why would the even WANT to be seen at Bradley. So they lost their scholarship or place on the soccor team. I only know one of the families, and I am sure their folks can send them elsewhere. Sometimes we indulge our children. Sometime we must make them learn to take another path. We don't always get what we want in life. As a BU grad, I would prefer they go elsewhere.

Everybody has played pranks, every been on a college campus? Yes, these boys are paying the price, but let them finish their education. It will not be a free ride for them to come back to campus. Everyday, they will relive what happened. It is time to put aside hateful thoughts and help these young men. I thought that what was Bradly was all about. That's what they told me when I went there. "We are here for you in every aspects of your life". But then again, these men aren't basketball

Bradley has the right to refuse admittance (for any reason)to anyone that applies to the school. I am sure these boys are sorry, but there are consequences for actions. They can further their education elsewhere. Just because they served time doesn't mean the slate is wiped clean. Think before you act.

While I believe they have the right to continue their education, I also believe each case is unique. Considering the unique circumstances with the Dahlquist family at the institution, I believe that they should seek their education elsewhere. That's the least they could do, out of respect for their friend and his family!

I am really sorry about the death of Danny; however, I feel Bradley should have taken a harder stance with their alcohol policy a long time ago. We were told that Bradley was a alcohol-free campus. What a joke!! Bradley is a great school and I am assured that administration will make good decisions regarding the policies they are putting in place. How can it become an Ivy League school with a bad rep and we don't want that.

Everyone must learn that their actions have consequences. Some actions have long-lasting consequences. This terrible act of idiocy resulted in the death of a friend and jail time. It is perfectly understandable that another consequence is the loss of returning to Bradley. Attending college is a privilege, not a right, and Bradley has a right to screen those who attend their school.

For whoever responds to this in a negative way, i hope you don't have a family member/friend that ever makes a mistake because then maybe you would be a little more empthetic. Yes, what the boys did was terribly wrong but they are already paying for it in the legal system and will for the rest for their lives mentally. They should be allowed back in school because what good can come from them not returning to Bradley? They are good boys who made a mistake, not rough guys who just got caught...

Bradley is a private university. Education there is a privilege. Those students violated that privilege. Bradley has every right to screen any and all of its students. It is unfortunate that these students made a very stupid mistake in judgement. It does not need to be glorified. Kudos to Bradley

It was a prank, not a planned murder. Personally, I don't participate in pranks, because "something could happen". They didn't mean for it to happen. Danny was their friend. Have you ever done something you regretted- knowing, later, it could have been worse? Have a heart. These guys are hurting and are deeply sorry. They will never forget what they did. If you don't want to let them back in Bradley, that is understandable, but come on, let's forgive them, for Danny's sake--he would have.

The prank that was played in the house was not the first time it was done and yes these young men should have been aware of the possible terrible consequences. They were found guilty of a felony and are paying for their crime (they will always have to live with the death of their friend). Once they have served their time, they should be allowed to finish their education. Even prisoners in jail for most of their life are given the opportunity to improve themselves.

Good for them!!! They should be in jail. Someone lost their life because of a senseless prank.

Tuesday, Apr 29 at 3:10 PM Bill wrote ...

Mr. Crady sure is apiece of work. Complaining that his son was misled? His son's friend is dead! He got lucky with the punishment as it was. Boo hoo, he'll have to find another college to attend? I don't feel sorry for him at all.

If those boys had any brains, they would have KNOWN that shoving a lit firework under an INSIDE door would cause a problem! They are obviously not smart enough to be allowed in ANY college! They don't even qualify for jr. high!
