Prostate Cancer Screenings

By Emily West

Doctors say the chances of men recovering from prostate cancer partly depend on when it is found.

So early detection is important.

The Peoria City/County Health Department is trying to give more people the opportunity to get screened for the disease.

Through a grant... the health department is offering a limited number of free prostate cancer screenings.

The Community Health Care Liaison with the Peoria City/County Health Department said, "Prostate cancer is a silent cancer, it doesn't show any symptoms until it is fairly far along. That's why it's important the gentlemen go ahead and get those blood draws done and physical exams."

The grant lasts through the month of June.

To apply for the free screening you can call the health department at 679-6606

And remember, tonight on Nightside... Tom McIntyre begins to profile Lee Ranson's fight against prostate cancer.
