A free cruise on the Illinois River is being used as an educational lesson for children.

The "Spirit of Peoria" Paddleboat became a classroom for some Central Illinois kids.
Participants who registered for "Teaming Up for Clean Water" took a three-hour tour up and down the river.
Organizers say they are trying to educate children on the importance of a clean river.
"The geology of the Illinois River basin, they'll do some bird watching they'll learn about Native American customs with water and also do some poetry writing and some fish prints with some artist from the area," says Camron Stanley.

This is the 16th the Clean Water Celebration.
