The ``Illinois Kids Count'' report released Thursday concludes that Illinois children are faring better now than 20 years ago but still
face problems in education funding and mental health services.

The new report cites concerns surrounding education funding and how Illinois pays to treat the estimated 300,000 children in the state with mental health conditions.

The report also sees a downward trend the lack of family economic assistance programs.

The report from Voices for Illinois Children uses data from the census, the state Public Health Department and other sources.
