The office of public safety at Western and Macomb police are investigating a threat of a shooting.

A handwritten note suggesting there would be a shooting on campus today showed up in the payment drop–box of an off–campus apartment complex overnight.

Resident halls are locked and accessible only by residents with keys.
Metamora's Shana Severinson returned from classes this morning to find her dorm locked and then learned of the threat.

"Well, I was kind of concerned at first because I was like, ok, how come I'm finding this out now because I already had two classes. I have two more classes later on...and I'm just thinking, do I really want to risk going to class? Is it worth it? So, I'm thinking I'm just going to stay in the dorms today and get some extra homework done," said Severinson.

Serverinson says it turns out she did get two e–mail warnings and a cell phone call from the University about the threat.
WIU president Al Goldfarb says while this is an anonymous off–campus threat, it is imperative to take the necessary precautions to keep students, staff and faculty safe.

It is scaring that after the NIU shooting that a person would want to do the same thing again at Western Illinois University. What is more of a concern is that there are college police departments in illinois like Oakton Community College Police Department and others who have police officers, but the colleges will not let the police officers carry there firearms while on duty to protect the staff, faculty and students. It is very scary. I am glad that the WIU have armed police officers.
