Peoria's Logo-Motion

The Peoria City Council tonight gave the go-ahead to the creation of a new logo for the city.

Mayor Jim Ardis said the proposal was creating an image, not creating a "brand" for Peoria. The current Indian head logo has been in use since the 1970's.

The Council also approved a one-half percent increase to the city's hotel tax. That would raise 200-thousand dollars to promote conventions and tourism. The council's vote included the suggestion that other communities increase their hotel taxes as well to add to the budget of the Peoria Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

I concur, not only does the logo cost, but the implementation will impact the tight dollar in today's economy. Isn't this still about supply and demand? The supply of novel logo concepts can be endless when you consider the college and high school talents, but the demand? Who is dictating demand? Certainly not an elected official, right? So, why not put this concept of a 'new logo' to a "public opinion" poll and see the demand. After speaking with dozens today there was no support.

Years ago our mayor made a bad decision dealing with the Paradise. If you wanted to grow Peoria you should have kept the boat here, look what it did to East Peoria. You lost out then there is no getting that back, give it up.

I really don't understand why you would want to have a new logo after all these years. What a waste of tax payers money!!! Would be nice if they would spend that much money on something that is worth it. The indian head is part of the heritage of the community by the way why don't the city just go ahead and change the name of Peoria while they are at it?

Our Tax $'s down the toilet some more. The logo is fine the way it is the police and city cars and trucks look great ! Let's use the money to clean the city up more of litter.

I agree with Phil Luciano, it will cost thousands and thousands, to change all the vehicles, headings on all the stationary, the signs, basically anything that has the cities logo on it. The city council is always complaining about money. As Phil said, why not let local college or high school students make up a new logo, or better yet keep the existing logo, what a waste of tax payers money!
