It took emergency workers about three hours Wednesday to pull a man's body from a full grain bin near Brimfield.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says 39–year–old Douglas Pacey died after falling into a silo Wednesday afternoon.
The Brimfield man was self–employed.

Police were called to Akron Services near Brimfield around 4:15 pm..
Rescue workers cut sections out of the silo and vacuumed grain out, trying to find the man.
The bin was full of soybean grain.
Brimfield Assistant Fire Chief, Dan Fishel, says many people responded to the call for help.

"We had Princeville, Elmwood fire departments assisting us, with multiple farmers and friends and family from the area all responded," said Fishel.

The National Guard Fire Service also assisted on scene.
This is the second time in as many weeks a grain elevator employee was trapped in a grain bin and died.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.

My prayers are with the family. This is a sad tragedy which is preventable. There is training availble through GEAPS and SATRA for both industry and fire departments. There are also grants that can be awarded to help pay for the training and education. Lets educate ourselves so that we dont have to experience another tragedy.

This is horribly sad. He is the second man in a week who fell into a grain bin. Isn't there some kind of extra safety measures? Why are these people falling in and what can we do to prevent it?

Did he actually fall into the silo or did he open the door on the side of the storage bin to see if the auger was clogged as he was attempting to fill his truck with soybeans.

It's a bin. Not a silo. Those are two diffent types of storage. My prayers are with the man and family.
