Biographer Educates Students Peoria Reads Author

By Jeff Muniz

Some Peoria Woodruff students this morning got a glimpse into the life of one of America's greatest authors.

The students have just finished reading Ray Bradbury's 'Fahrenheit 451' as part of the Peoria Reads Program.

Bradbury biographer Sam Weller spoke to about 150 students inside the Woodruff Auditorium. Weller says the 87-year-old can still appeal to the young generation.

"He writes about stuff like Mars, dinosaurs, rocket ships, carnival freaks, stuff young adult readers will say this is literature and I'm not falling asleep. If I can turn one kid into a reader, that's success."

Bradbury's classic book is about a world of non-readers and thinkers where books are banned.

Many believe what Bradbury wrote in the 1950's about the future is already happening.
