Police Investigate Death Of Six-Month-Old Boy

By Syreeta Baker

Peoria Police are investigating the death of a baby boy who was found strapped inside a car seat at a Peoria home Tuesday afternoon.

Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says five-month old Benjamin Sargent was discovered dead inside his home at 3012 West Proctor.

Peoria police say 23-year-old James Sargent, the baby's father, called 9-1-1-yesterday afternoon.

When authorities arrived at the house they found the baby lying unresponsive inside a car seat in the crib of a bedroom.

Ingersoll calls the death suspicious.

Peoria Police have interviewed the baby's parents 21-year old Tracy Herman and James Sargent, but no arrests have been made.

An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

If you dont want your child or cant take care of them there are thousands of people out there that would love to give a good home to a child there are many people that cant even have kids. There two should be locked up for life for taking a life of a child. there are just some people that should not have kids.

OK...the baby was in his own crib...in the house of his parents...HOW COULD THEY NOT HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THAT BABY!!!!!!! It makes me cherish the moments i have with my daughter, those 2 parents should get the death penalty and made to starve like that baby, it's the worst crime they could ever commit!

I will be begging the district attorney to bring the death penalty to both parents. Good parents FEED their children CHRIS. You are just as ignorant as them.

Not many people outside the family know that this isn't the first neglect of a chiid of Tracey Hermann's. She has another child . Saved from certain death by a aunt and uncle.
