February 12th of next year will mark the bicentennial of the birth of President Abraham Lincoln.
Illinois along with Indiana and Kentucky...the states where Lincoln was born, grew up and began his political endeavors...have engaged in a two–year long celebration of Lincoln's 200th birthday.

In Metamora, town leaders are planning an unveiling of a life–sized Lincoln statue, which the city is currently raising money for.
The town is also preparing a large–scale musical and theatrical event for 2009/.
Metamora isn't the only town riding Lincoln's tourism wave.

Brent Lonteen of the Peoria Convention and Visitor's Bureau said, "Technically, they're our competitors in Springfield, but I have to admit, one of the most popular things that have opened in the last two years in the state of Illinois has been the Abraham Lincoln museum in Springfield. But we can all benefit from that because we all have our own Lincoln stories to tell so that's what we're doing locally. We're doing a local collaborative to work with the state on the statewide collaborative."
