Backing Baker

By News 25 Staff

About two hundred people gathered together tonight to rally around a friend. Percy Baker Junior, former director of the Carver Community Center in Peoria, needs a heart transplant.

Supporters have organized a series of fundraisers like this one to help with medical expenses. The group - Families United for Christ held this benefit dinner Saturday night.

Estella Davis-Flowers says Baker has done much for the community, and those who are here wanted to return the favor.

"He has really reached out into the community and helped a lot of people in many different ways and we want to reach out and help him in his time of need," she says.

The events continue Sunday with a Gospel Tribute at the Church of the Living God in Peoria. It starts at 4 o'clock. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
