About 50 churches have organized "40 Days of Prayer" in response to a call from Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis.

Pastors from each of the churches along with their members will gather at the Gateway Building on Peoria's Riverfront to pray each evening for help in stopping the violence.

"We can pray for poverty. We can pray for single parent families. We can pray for the school system. We can pray for the police department and how they are going to be effective in what they do. Cause crime is kind of a composite phrase of all the things that contribute to poverty and difficulties and families," said Rev. Tom Eckhardt, Planning Committee.

Forty Days of Prayer will begin December 31th at 6 o'clock in the evening at the Gateway Building on Peoria's Riverfront.
It will continue until February 8th.

Participating churches are asked to give a 125 dollar fee to help pay for the use of the Gateway buildin
