Fieldcrest High School students made a sizable contribution in the fight against breast cancer today.

Last month they sold pink t-shirts, held raffles and collected money as part of their "Pack the Place Pink" night.

Today they presented the Peoria Susan G. Komen Memorial Affiliate with a check for nearly $6,000.

Senior Allison Hester said, "I have a relative who had breast cancer, so I think it's a good idea to support."

The students say they may host the event again in the future. The local Komen affiliate hopes to raise one million dollars this year in the annual Peoria Komen Race for the Cure.

The race will be held May 10 beginning at the Metro Centre.
