Even though she began singing several years ago this is the first time the Roosevelt Magnet School Sixth grader sang before all of her classmates.

Amber Braison said, "When I was singing I was a little nervous cause some people haven't heard me and I also felt I should have drank some tea this morning."

The crowd will be a lot bigger for the 11-year-old student this Saturday when she sings at the famed Apollo Theater in New York City. Alicia Braison says her daughter was the only child selected by the Apollo theater during an audition at the Black Expo in Peoria last fall.

Her mother Alicia said, "She's always been able to sing since she was about two. But it started coming together when she was like about three. She's been singing like over the last 2 years I just started getting her out there and having her sing more."

Just recently she joined the Integrity Singers Gospel Choir and sings in her school and church choirs and will now get to sing for the Apollo Theater's Kid Stars of Tomorrow Segment.

"I used to always dream about going when I was a kid, you know just to sit in on the shows and stuff. It was always exciting but you know it's a dream come true with my daughter who's gonna be going to perform. I just thank God for the opportunity to be able to even step foot in there and be able to go."

On top of her appearance at the Apollo, Amber says she will get a chance to meet a big name entertainer who is also scheduled to be there. Mom and daughter say it will be a trip with memories that will last a lifetime.

Amber Braison and her mother are scheduled to fly back to Peoria Sunday. The sixth grader hopes to pursue a professional career as a singer
