Grocery Store Bags Up The Environment

By Max Jacobs

An area grocery store is trying to do its part to help the environment.

Kroger stores are trying to reduce the amount of paper and plastic bags that end up in the landfill.

The stores are selling reusable bags for 99 cents and an insulated bag for $2.99.

The manager at the store on Lake and Sheridan in Peoria says customers are responding positively.

Ralph Stief said, "Customers are buying them. We have two of them a regular one and an insulated one and we have to order more of the insulated ones already."

The company also has replaced a lot of lighting fixtures and refrigeration units to help in the reduction of its stores energy costs.
