Students at Woodruff High School in Peoria were sick of seeing waste, so they initiated their own recycling system.
They are showing off their two-week-old program on this day before Earth Day.
The Woodruff students solicited local business to help secure containers and educational material.
They're collecting plastic bottles, newspapers and work sheet paper to reduce the amount of waste going into a landfill.
Senior Mitch Hidden said, "(We) just want to make a little bit of a difference. It takes people recycling to make a difference in our community. Every little bit helps."
The students are also encouraging the faculty and administration to cut down on waste by using group e-mails for routine memos instead of hard copies and using both sides of paper when making copies.
