There's a growing debate on whether drivers get a bigger bang for their buck with ethanol or regular unleaded gasoline.
News 25's Jeff Muniz put the two fuels to the test to find out which one saves cash for consumers.
Drivers are always searching to fill up with the cheapest fuel. Some will even drive across town to save a penny per gallon.
And, the cheapest fuel you'll find on signs is E-85. It's a blend of 85% corn-based ethanol and 15% gasoline.
But the catch is, does the alternative fuel take you as far and in the end actually save you money.
WEEK-TV filled up a quarter tank full of both e-85 and regular unleaded and drove them until empty.
139 miles into this trip, we have officially run out of E-85 in the McDonald's parking lot. Join Jeff Muniz for the ride tonight at 10:00 p.m. to see if we were able to go further on typical regular unleaded gasoline.
How did Jeff try to make your test drive as fair as possible on both of these fuels?
First, he used a flex fuel car...one that can run on both fuels. He then filled up at the same station, drove the same highways and went the same speed on the two trips.
