Green is becoming chic even in the clothing industry. Two West Coast designers are trying to make their mark in sustainable fashion.
This line of clothing is more than just hip and stylish. It's raising eco awareness on the cat walk.
Laura Carter of Velvet Leaf said, "Our number one goal is to get sustainability out there in the fashion market."
After starting their own line, velvet leaf, sisters Becky and Laura Carter insist on only using earth-friendly fabric and practices.
Becky said, "Developing fabrics that are organic, sustainable packaging, low waste dyes, basically everything that goes into making a garmet, not just cotton, not just the fabric itself."
Is it more difficult to work with organic fabrics?
Laura said, "It is. It defiantly was from the beginning we had a hard time finding fabrics."
"But the organic market is growing. And the mills are growing, the fabric availability is growing so allowing them to make an entire eco-line that's really getting them noticed."
You can combine, sustainability with beautiful designs and come up with something that the public really wants."
How is it working with you sister?
Laura said, "It is amazing. Like we do everything together."
Becky added, "We never want to cut corners, you know, we want it to be real and we want our customers to know that."
Fashion that combines style and sustainability- seamlessly.
