Event Description

The Starved Rock Yacht Club will once again host its Eighth Annual SPECIAL PEOPLE CRUISE on Saturday, June 7th, 2008 beginning at 9:30 A.M. The event is open to all physically or mentally disabled people, young and old, along with their families, caretakers and counselors. Individuals and groups who would like to attend the event for a cruise on the beautiful Illinois River must send in registration forms. The days activities which include a river cruise, games, clowns and lunch is provided free of charge compliments of the Starved Rock Yacht Club and its many sponsors.

Last year we had a beautiful day with fun enjoyed by all on the water and on shore. Over twenty boats from the Starved Rock Yacht Club and other neighboring marinas and boat clubs took participants on a memorable cruise on the beautiful Illinois River. Those who chose to pass on the boat ride spent the day playing games, winning prizes and enjoying their hot dog lunch. The captains and crew that volunteered their boats and time are once again eager to take part in this remarkable charitable event. The Ottawa Rescue Squad, Illinois Conservation Police and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will also be assisting in the event. We also have help from nurses, firemen and other officials who volunteer their time. We encourage other local boat captains and crews to participate and join us for a most rewarding day.

The Starved Rock Yacht Club is located on Dee Bennett Road, immediately west of Buffalo Rock State Park, which is west of Ottawa, Illinois.
