Event Description

Peoria Players Theatre announces audtions for the 2008 Summer Youth Theatre production of THE WIZ directed by Bryan Blanks.

Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz have been set to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock, gospel, and soul music. Everybody kows the story, but now its a new fantasy--mysterious, opulent and fanciful. THE WIZ marks Peoria Players' 12th annual Summer Youth Theatre. This program debuted in 1997 and continues to be an exciting outlet for local youth. Those auditioning for THE WIZ must be between the ages of 14 and 20.

THE WIZ offers 11 principal parts, along with a chorus of singers and dancers. Director Bryan Blanks needs strong singers and dancers of all races. Of special note: The role of Dorothy will be cast as was originally intended; he will be looking for an African-American female with a strong vocal range.

Auditions will be held at the Corn Stock Theatre Center on Friday, May 23 at 7:00pm and Saturday, May 24 at 1:00pm. Please prepare 16-32 bars of music, bring your sheet music, and dress comfortably for dance auditions. The show will run at Peoria Players Theatre on August 7-10.

For further information, please call 688-4473.
