2008 Academy Award nominee Hal Holbrook brings his signature role to the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts, with “Mark Twain Tonight” on Friday, March 14 at 7:30 pm.
This Tony, Drama Desk, and Emmy Award-winning play began as an honors project on Twain Holbrook that completed while attending Denison University. Revised later into its current format, Holbrook gave his first staged performance of Mark Twain Tonight at the Lock Haven State Teachers College in Pennsylvania in 1954, and the show has been on tour every year since.
Holbrook has now made over 2100 performances in the role, including off-Broadway in 1959, the show’s Tony-winning Broadway run in 1966, and two Broadway revivals in 1977 and 2005.

Patrons are invited to come early for a free pre-performance discussion. Beginning at 6:45 pm, ISU English Professor, Roberta Trites, will lead a discussion on Mark Twain’s influence on the voice of children in literature.
