    Former county jail officer faces sexual misconduct charges

    UPDATED 4:50 p.m. BLOOMINGTON -- A former McLean County correctional officer faces sexual misconduct and intimidation charges in connection with his duties at the jail. Robert C. Hall, 34, of the 1500 block of Hunt Drive, Normal, faces five counts of custodial sexual misconduct and one count of intimidation.

    Mom, children mutilated and dismembered at gruesome crime scene

    NEW 3:45 p.m. TAMPA, Fla. -- A woman and her two young children slain north of Tampa were found mutilated and dismembered in a crime scene that investigators described as one of the most gruesome they had ever seen.

    NEW 3:05 p.m. PONTIAC -- A Dwight teenager who was put on nearly three years probation for leaving a bomb threat in Dwight Township High School is doing well in specialized classes and may return to high school in the fall, officials said Tuesday.

    New owner to allow continued use of community garden

    BLOOMINGTON -- Folks with green thumbs are celebrating the unexpected return of the city of Bloomington’s community garden at Hershey and Ireland Grove roads. The Bloomington Parks & Recreation Department, which oversaw the garden, announced in March the program was no longer available after Unit 5 schools, the property’s previous owner, traded the land to Sunrise Co. LLC in return for a place to build a school complex at U.S. 150 when Hershey Road is extended.

    Precautions followed after rumor NCHS student was carrying gun

    NORMAL -- Someone told Normal police of a rumor about student taking a gun to Normal Community High School Monday, but nothing was found to substantiate the rumor, said Unit 5 Superintendent Gary Niehaus in a statement on the school’s Web site.

    PONTIAC -- Public comment for or against a proposed 155-turbine wind farm in Livingston County continued at a Livingston County Zoning Board of Appeals hearing Monday night.

    Central Illinois students in China safe after earthquake

    Several Illinois Wesleyan University students in China for a May term travel course are safe in Beijing — far from the epicenter of the earthquake, said Reenie Bradley, who works in the campus’s international office. Bradley said another IWU student from Minnesota who is on a study-abroad program in Shanghai e-mailed her mother that she was safe.
